Weekly Recipe: Cherry Dump Cake or Apple Dump Cake

This recipe is seriously the easiest dessert I have EVER made. I can't really take credit for creating this recipe, but I have pieced it together from different variations found online and through a wonderful cooking colleague at my workplace! You know a recipe is really popular when I can find dump cake on myfitnesspal.com when I go to log in my calories for the day. Slight bummer - this isn't healthy by any means! Just make sure you have a lot of people to share it with, and you won't be tempted to eat two, or three, or more (eeks!) servings!

Giant pan of  delicious!

Looks kind of like cherry cobbler, and tasted soooo good!
You can really get creative on the fruit you include in the recipe based on your whims and the items in your pantry. Let me know what you think of the recipe, and any other variations you have tried! I wonder how it would taste with chocolate cake mix?

Cherry Dump Cake
24 servings, 10 minutes prep, 50 minutes baking

Ingredients
1 large can crushed pineapple (drained a little bit)
1 large can cherry pie filling
1 box yellow cake mix
1 stick butter

1. Spray a 13x9 pan with nonstick cooking spray. Pour the pineapple into the pan, and carefully spread with a spatula.

2. Next, spread the pie filling across the pan. Take the dry cake mix, and sprinkle the entire bag to completely cover the fruit.

3. Cut the stick of butter into very thin squares of butter, and sprinkle them around evenly on top of the cake mix. The thinner the squares are, the more evenly the butter will be spread out.

4. Bake the dump cake in the oven at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes. Take the cake out when the top layer becomes a golden brown.

Apple Dump Cake
24 servings, 10 minutes prep, 50 minutes baking

Ingredients
2 cans apple pie filling
1 box spice cake mix
1 stick butter

Follow the same directions listed above. This one is delicious as a fall dessert, served warm or a la mode with some vanilla ice cream!

  1. Mmmmm....the cherry one...how much exactly is a large can of pineapple and cherries? (your US cans may not be the same as our South African cans).

And...how much is a stick of butter? We don't work with "sticks" here. Do you know the grams...?

This really sounds good, i wanna try it! :)

The large can of pineapple is 567 grams and I think the cherry is about the same size. A stick of butter is 113 grams. Thanks for following my blog and I hope you enjoy the recipes!
