Something about moving into our first place has made me really love decorating our apartment! Every trip to a store or hour spent watching HGTV gives me new ideas of how I want to make our home more "us". Below are some of the ideas Dustin and I are considering working on this fall:
Canvas paintings on the wall Dustin and I ordered canvas prints, one from our wedding, and another from our honeymoon. Then when I was at Michael's I saw packs of 5 canvases for sale. So, I bought the canvases and am waiting for inspiration to strike to paint some sort of awesome design and get them arranged above our sofa.
Wedding display bookshelves
I visited my friend, Emily, in Ft. Lauderdale a couple months ago, and she had a really cute display cabinet with a bunch of her wedding memorabilia in it. Dustin and I have been working on a similar project in our family room. We bought two bookshelves from Target, which happen to match our TV stand really nicely, and filled them up with photos, glassware, wedding cake topper, and our sand ceremony from the wedding.
We really love how they look, but now need to find some way to illuminate them at nighttime, because they are made of really dark wood.
Shelves of photos and postcards: I follow a wonderful blog,
Young House Love, which has TONS of awesome and sentimental decorating ideas. While I would love to steal EVERY cute thing they do in their house, right now I would really like to model something after their shelves for displaying a rotating collection of postcards and photos like these from their office. They built them for really cheap, so I am hoping Dustin and I could replicate something similar on the wall in our dining area.
Looks like we will really have our work cut out of us this fall if we want to finish all these projects!
we have canvas wall paintings in our apartment, that we painted ourselves it was so much fun!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and I just recently bought a house and we are still decorating. It's very fun until there is just something you know you want but can't find. It took me 3 months to find one set of curtains I like, perhaps it's because I'm so picky haha. Now that I've learned how to sew I'm going to just make my own : ) Good luck and have fun!
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew how to sew! That sounds like a good idea. Curtains will probably have to wait until winter time for us. I figure take it one week, or one month at a time!
ReplyDeleteHaha that's definitely a good idea. I'm still pretty new to sewing, so we'll see. I started out with a dress so I guess curtains won't be too difficult, right?
